Akemi Suzuki
I was born and raised in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan, as the eldest of three sisters. Thanks to my grandmother and mother, who loved Kimono, I have been familiar with kimono since my childhood.
When I became a high school teacher and had the opportunity to go to England for language training, I regrettably could not explain traditional Japanese culture well to the locals.
After my return to Japan, I started taking tea ceremony lessons and began to learn about kimono and kimono dressing. As a result, I was certified as a kimono dressing instructor and kimono consultant. I then established Azure Style and started working as a freelance kimono dresser in 2010.
I sincerely hope that many foreigners living or visiting Japan will have the opportunity to experience the kimono to feel the following advantages and charms of it:
- Timeless fashion
Kimono can be coordinated with an obi and other accessories, regardless of fashion trends. - Great variety
There are countless varieties in materials, patterns, and ways of wearing kimono depending on the season and the occasion. - Sustainability
Kimono can be worn and passed down to the next generations, from parents to children and grandchildren.
Now, why don’t you try on a kimono too?
